The Tools of Expectations
But you promised!!
At some point in your life, particularly if you are a parent, you have heard those fateful words. They are the marks of disappointment, frustration and lost opportunity. They are the sound of shattered expectations. For all of the tools of project management, there are very few that overtly capture expectations. This goes beyond just meeting requirements. It goes to meeting desires and mapping outcomes to the imagination of the recipient.
There are three basic questions that can put us there.
- The future state question
- The negative state question
- The scenario question
And we need to know that if we ask the questions, we need to be prepared for the answers. And if we cannot serve the answers, we need to effectively lower the expectations of those we serve.
