C. Eric Kirkland, Ph.D, PMP

Immediate Past President - Term of office 2018-2019. Dr. Eric Kirkland is the Executive Vice President and Accreditation Liaison of Salem University for the past decade. Salem offers formal project management (PM) education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In 2013-2014 he also served Salem as the Provost and Chief Academic Officer.  Prior to joining Salem, Dr. Kirkland was Vice President of Operations of the University of Management and Technology in Arlington, Virginia. At UMT he established the undergraduate school comprising ten degree programs, as well as adding four new master’s degree programs and a Doctor of Business Administration with specialization in Project Management. The DBA/PM was the first such program accredited by the PMI Global Accreditation Center.  He taught statistics, business management, project management, information technology, and general education courses as well as handling all accreditation and approvals. He has led numerous projects in the public, private, and military sectors.  He has published in the PM Journal and has attended PMI conferences.  UMT is a world-renowned leader in providing PM training and education, which is headed by two PMI Fellows: Dr. Yanping Chen and Dr. J. Davidson Frame.  Dr. Kirkland contributes his time and talents locally, regionally, and nationally serving nonprofit associations just as the American Association of University Administrators (AAUA) of which he is Vice Chairperson.  He has served WVOVPMI as Director-at-Large, VP Finance, and President.
